The Shining Star of the Lake District Posted on 22/01/2009
Sharrow Bay has been awarded a Michelin Star for the thirteenth consecutive year under the guidance of head chef’s Colin Akrigg and Mark Teasdale. The restaurant offers a selection of classic British inspired menus. The ingredients used on the menus continue to embody the ethos of the two head chefs, to use the best, freshest produce from the local farms in the area. Dishes include venison from the nearby Martindale valley, herdwick lamb from Yew Tree Farm and smoked duck from Brougham hall.
Both Colin and Mark grew up on nearby farms joining the hotel as teenage kitchen porters. Their rise through the ranks to becoming two of the best chefs in the industry that have been awarded a Michelin star over such a long period of time is remarkable.
The restaurant at Sharrow Bay offers a selection of dining options including its hugely popular 3-course lunch from £32 which features Best End and Braised Shoulder of Herdwick Lamb with roasted parsnip, dauphinoise potatoes and a tomato and rosemary sauce. All dining options include the hotels iconic invention, sticky toffee pudding which is now available through exclusive retailers such as Harvey Nichols and Fortnum & Masons nationwide.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2009 as the original country house hotel, Sharrow Bay is ever developing its award winning wine list which now sits at over 700 bins. Led by wine director and writer Nicolas Chieze the list has been awarded the prestigious ‘Best of Award of Excellence’ since 2003, one of only eight properties to receive this accolade.
The Sharrow Bay is firmly shining in the Lake District.
